WHO:
Erden Zikibay, MFA candidate in George Mason University’s School of Art
WHAT:
“Freedom of Fear” is Zikibay’s graduate thesis exhibition, and it features 3D
animation, motion graphics, and new media installations. The artist looks at
the themes of race, religion, and resistance in the history of the United States
and explores a diverse group of people, ranging from Harriet Tubman to Osama
bin Laden. Zikibay employs new media to question the status quo and to reflect
upon the human condition. This exhibition attempts to make sense of the historical
complexities and contradictions surrounding ideology, power, and struggle.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: An artist from Kazakhstan working
in the greater Washington, D.C. area, Zikibay is currently an M.F.A. candidate
in New Media Art at George Mason University. He has a B.A. in Digital Arts from
GMU.
