In Unison

MAS Opens "In Unison: 20 Washington, DC Artists" at Capital One's Reston, Virginia Executive Center
February 6 through April 30, 2012
"In Unison:  20 Washington, DC Artists" represents a collaboration of a group of Washington, DC area artists, distinguished by their diversity in terms of accomplishments - emerging, mid-career, and masters; ethnicity - African American, White American, Asian American and Latin American; age - from the 30's to the 80's; gender - male and female; and varying artistic approaches - painters, sculptors, digital media and installation artists, and a few printmakers.

These artists came together in the welcoming space of the print studio at George Mason University School of Art to each create 5 monoprints (from February to June 2010 and during the month of June 2011).  While they were exploring their artistic expression individually through the printmaking process, the environment provided opportunities for interaction among the artists and promoted a true sense of collaboration. In the Washington, DC environment where art communities remain largely segregated, these artists crossed the color line both literally and figuratively, fostering hope for our world's future.

Indeed, the process by which these works were born reflects the unifying vision of the exhibition as a whole. Selected works from the over 100 monoprints created were initially shown at the Kreeger Museum and then selected works of the 20 at the Hillyer Art Space in 2011.  "In Unison" will next be on view at the Capitol One Executive Center, 1680 Capital One Drive, Reston, Virginia 22102, from February 6 thorugh April 30, 2012.

Millennium Arts Salon is the proud sponsor of this project, which features some of Washington's finest artists.  Special thanks to George Mason University for use of its print studio, to International Art and Artists for managing the travel of the exhibition, and to the inspiration and creative genius of all the participating artists.

SoA Print Internships Spring 2012

INTERNSHIPS – Spring 2012

The School of Art Print Studio (SoA Print) has several internships available for Spring 2012. We are George Mason’s fine art digital print studio located in the School of Art, producing exhibition-quality prints from state-of-the-art inkjet and laser printers.

We are offering internships for friendly, talented, and hardworking students to assist in our day-to-day operations. Students should have interest in a related field such as Photography, Graphic Design, or Digital Art. Our interns will gain extensive knowledge concerning fine art printers and printing techniques, and develop skills in customer service.

Responsibilities will include preparing files to print (preflight and graphics), print production, and creative design services. Interns will also assist customers in preparing and submitting their orders. Internships will start at the beginning of the spring semester, and can count for up to 3 class credits.

To apply, pick up an application form at SoA Print, School of Art, Room 1011 and submit your completed form to our office during our open hours. Interviews will be scheduled near the end of the fall semester.
